Importance of Magnesium in plant growth

Magnesium is an essential plant nutrient. It is an important constituent of chlorophyll, and has an essential role in the translocation of starch within the plant.

Magnesium has a crucial role in protein synthesis and enzyme systems, and is closely associated with copper and zinc.

Deficiency symptoms include:

  • Yellowing within the veins and outer leaves, more commonly in older growth.
  • Leaves may be abnormally thin and brittle, severely deficient plants tend to take on a purplish colour on leaf tips and margins.
  • Trees with magnesium deficiency are more prone to pest and disease infection, and in some cases drop their leaves prematurely.

Benefits of using Magnesium Nitrate

  • Magnesium Nitrate is a highly soluble crystal , which is suitable for use in the prevention and correction of magnesium deficiencies in a variety of plants.
  • Magnesium Nitrate is the optimum magnesium carrier, as the nitrate stimulates the up take of magnesium by plants.
  • Magnesium Nitrate is suitable as a foliar spray or for use in fertigation and hydroponics.
  • Magnesium Nitrate can be mixed with most other fertilisers, or crop protection products.
